Is my nose broken or just very badly bruised?

Well yesterday me and my friends were doing handstands in her yard and i kinda caught her foot with my face. It really hurt on that side and i couldnt breath out of that side so we went to the ER. The doctor said it was too swollen to tell if it was broken and x-rays would be useless because it was just too swollen and the bones are so complex that it would basically be a waste of money. i have to see an ear nose and throat specialist if it looks crooked or i still cant breath normally. Well this happened last night and this morning it sill hurts and i can only breath a little better. I think it may be broken because the side i hit it on doesnt have the bruise, the opposite side did. The doctor said it is hard to break your nose without a nosebleed however i have never had a nose bleed from impact, just from having the inside of my nose be dried out in the winter. The doctor also said it looked congested but i had no congestion what so ever before the accident. The foot did hit hard enough for it to bend my gles. It is still too swollen for me to tell if it is broken, but do you guys think it sounds broken?
