Pink Chi Straightner burned or dirty?

I have a limited edition Pink Chi flat iron. I've had it for 6 months now and the sides are turning purplish brown. I don't know if the flat iron itself is burned, or aged, or if it's buildup. I tried getting it off with rubbing alcohol, but nothing is happening. Does anyone know what this is and how to get rid of it? Thanks in advance!
