Are veggies willing to stop eating soy products?

My mom told me that when she was young in the Netherlands, milk was in gl jars and the empties were picked up my the milk man. The gl jars were then cleaned and reused again. Food back then did not have the packaging like it has today. She told me that they only had 1 bag of garbage per month! So why have we gone package-crazy?? Fancy packaging is everywhere, toys, food, gifts, cleaning products, etc. How do we start to get rid of them and go back to the way things once were?
