Why aren't we told of the dangers of fluoride?

i've recently seen the effects of ingesting fluoride and i can't see any reason why its put in almost every essential product e.g water milk salt baby formula etc. its a medication and a poison even in small doses, how can we be subjected to it without any consent from the public??
